We recently heard from Valerie Fioravanti, (participant in 2009), that her first book,Garbage Night at the Opera, won the 2011 Chandra Prize and is forthcoming from BkMk Press. Congratulations are in high order!
Valerie seems to be the very center of a vibrant writing community in Sacramento, CA,where she teaches, coaches and encourages writers. She runs the Sacramento Writers Workshops, which has an impressive list of readings, workshops and classes. For instance, in mid-May, the charming Peter Ho Davies, (NVWC faculty from 2009) will be teaching a weekend Master Teachers Workshop. If you missed the opportunity to work with Peter at the Conference in 2009, here’s another chance. Currently there’s a waitlist for the class, but, well things happen. Other workshops later in the year will feature Lynn Freed and Kevin McIlvoy.
To learn more, visit Valerie Fioravanti . You’ll find links there about upcoming readings and workshops and the marvelous Stories on Stage Project.
So nice to see the Napa Valley Writers Conference community maintain connections and expand. We love hearing from previous participants about what they are up to; please send us your good news so we can share! (see Staff Page for contact info)
